TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
In the final match of the FSU Invitational, Florida State defeated Ivy League opponent Brown University, 3-0 (30-25, 30-25, 30-19). Erica Bunch and Alex Sevillano led the Seminoles past Brown. Kristin Frye and Sevillano were named to the FSU Invitational All-Tournament team. With the victory over the Bears, Florida State improves its record to 8-3, while Brown falls to 1-5.
Bunch accounted for 12 kills, seven digs and hit .550 to lead the Seminoles past Brown. After coming off a strong performance against LSU, all-tournament team selection Sevillano notched 14 kills, two service aces and hit .333 against the Bears. Sophomore Aisha Carr propelled the Seminole attack; recording 10 kills on 19 attacks and four errors to hit .316 for Florida State. Jennifer Anderson led the team in assists compiling 43 in the duration of the match.
Leading the way for the Bears was junior Jessie Cooper as she had seven kills, two block assists and a hitting percentage of .267. Outside hitter Ceneca Calvert, named to the all-tournament team, contributed six kills, one service and eight digs. Leigh Martin led the Bears in assists as she recorded 22 against Florida State.
Florida State opposite Frye earned tournament MVP honors as she proved her senior leadership on the court over the course of the weekend. Frye helped her team improve to 8-3 as she racked up 38 kills, 16 digs and four aces during the tournament. Teammate Sevillano was also named to the FSU Invitational All-Tournament team; recording 47 kills, 19 digs and a hitting percentage of .368.
Other all-tournament team selections were Jennifer Hampton and Cara Causey of LSU, Priscilla Lima and Clarice Laires of Louisiana-Lafayette and Ceneca Calvert of Brown.
Florida State will return to action Tuesday, September 24th, when the Seminoles travel to Gainesville, Fla. to take on in-state rival Florida. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
