TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Coming off a stellar home weekend, winning the Florida State Invitational 3-0, the Seminole volleyball team heads into a tough schedule as they take on No. 23 Long Beach State on Thursday, Sept. 4, and welcome North Florida and South Dakota State as they host the Seminole Tri-Tournament on Sept. 5-7.
The last meeting with the ranked team from the west coast was last season at the Long Beach State Tournament on September 8. Florida State fell in three sets, extending the 49ers’ all-time streak to 4-0 against the Garnet and Gold.
The Seminoles dominated at their home tournament last weekend, sweeping Florida A&M and Stetson and downing Bowling Green 3-1. In a five-way tie for second in the ACC, Florida State currently leads the conference in team hitting percentage (.392) and service aces (2.40/set) and is second for assists (13.73/set), kills (14.91/set) and blocks (2.60/set).
In the individual ACC rankings, Florida State Invitational MVP Jordana Price tops the league with a .610 hitting percentage while fellow junior Nikki Baker is tops for assists as she averaged 11.80 per set over the weekend.
Following the LBSU match, FSU begins its second home tournament, the Seminole Tri-Tournament, with the first match against North Florida at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Ospreys will then take on South Dakota State at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday before the Seminoles face the SDSU Jack Rabbits at noon on Sunday.
