Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida State volleyball held and intra-squad scrimmage Saturday night in preparation for the 2003 season opener against Florida Atlantic on Friday, August 29th. The Gold team defeated the Garnet 3-1 (26-30, 30-23, 30-25, 30-27), led by Aisha Carr’s 17 kills. Senior newcomer Renee Hill added 16 kills and five digs in the win.

“I learned a lot tonight and so did our coaching staff,” said head coach Todd Kress. “Our setters did an extremely good job running the offense and a lot of girls moved up and down the depth chart tonight. Overall, I am extremely pleased on how far we have come and how hard the girls have worked this preseason.”

On top of the strong performance by Carr for the Gold, junior transfer Lindsay Curtiss tallied 15 digs and senior Cerina Pele recorded six kills with seven digs.

For the Garnet, the freshman newcomers got a lot of work and played extremely well during the scrimmage. Freshman Nikki Anthony had 13 kills and nine digs, while fellow freshman Sarah Griffin also had a strong performance with 13 kills and eight digs in the loss.

FSU will kick off the 2003 regular season at home in the FSU Invitational on Friday, August 29th. The Seminoles will take on Florida Atlantic in their first match of the day at 12:30 p.m. and will face Kansas State at 7:30 p.m. that same evening. On Saturday, August 30th, Florida State will take on the Michigan Wolverines at 6:00 p.m.
