CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Florida State defeated the University of Virginia 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 26-24) at Memorial Gym on Saturday night, completing a weekend sweep of ACC road matches. The Seminoles improve to 14-7 overall and 6-5 in the ACC while the Cavaliers slip to 13-10 and 5-6 in the conference.
“Tonight’s win was similar to our win over Virginia Tech last night,” Seminole head coach Chris Poole said. “The only difference is we blocked a little better today. But similar in that Nikki Baker did a good job spreading the offense around. All five of our hitters were in the 20’s so we had a real good balance.”
Sophomore Lauren Richardson led the squad throughout the evening, hitting .500 with 14 kills and eight digs. Fellow sophomore Stephanie Neville had another strong night with 11 kills, hitting at .296 with three assisted blocks.
“I thought as a whole they played very well,” Poole said. “There were some big points played after 20 again tonight. All six sets were highly contested this weekend and in all of them we could have folded, but we didn’t. We found a way to win so that was very encouraging to see that on the road.”
The Seminoles will return home to Tully Gym on Friday, Oct. 31 to host Wake Forest a team it beat in five sets earlier this season. The match will be broadcast live on ACC Select. Visit http://all-access.cbssports.com to watch the action live.
