March 27, 2005

ATHENS, Ga. –
Paced by sophomore Jaclyn Burch, the Florida State women’s golf team completed play at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic Sunday at the University of Georgia Golf Course. Burch led the Seminoles with three rounds of golf in the 70’s and was one of two Florida State players who finished in the top 50 in the individual standings. As a team, the Seminoles finished in 18th place in the team standings.

Georgia, the host team, successfully defended its 2004 team championship as it bested Louisiana State by 13 strokes. The No. 6 ranked Bulldogs led wire-to-wire in gaining their second team championship of the 2004-05 fall and spring seasons. Georgia’s Kelly Froelich rallied from two strokes down entering the third round to win the event by two strokes.

Burch, the Seminoles’ most consistent golfer this spring, finished in a tie for 41st place with a 233 score for the 54-hole event. She played her best round of golf in this weekend’s event over the first 18 holes as she shot a four-over par 76. Burch (Wildwood, Mo.) has now earned seven straight top-50 individual finishes.

Florida State closes out their regular season beginning Friday (April 1) at the Ryder/Florida Championship at Miami Lakes, Fla. The Seminoles have won two of the last three team championships at the Ryder/Florida.
