Seminole Women’s Golf Team Concludes Play At Cougar Fall Classic

HANAHAN, S.C. –
Florida State sophomore Jaclyn Burch finished in a tie for 36th place and the Florida State women’s golf team finished 15th place at the Cougar Fall Classic hosted by the College of Charleston at Yeamans Hall Country Club. Burch finished the three-round event with a career-low 228 total as she averaged 76.00 strokes per round.

Louisiana State defeated Tennessee by three strokes (873-876) to claim the team title as the Tigers carded a 290 team total as compared to the Lady Vols’ 295 in the final round. Rachel Smith of Virginia won the individual competition with a four-under par score of 212. She defeated Violeta Retamoza by one stroke as she carded a four-under par 68 during the final round.

Burch (Wildwood, Mo.) played very consistently throughout the entire event with scores of 74-78-76 for her career best 228 total. In addition to earning a career-best tournament score and career-best score vs. par, Burch claimed her seventh career top 40 finish and first since also finishing tied for 36th at the NCAA East Regional during the spring of 2004.

Freshman Whitney Brummett (Eureka, Mo.) earned the best score of the final round for the Seminoles as she carded a two-over par 74. She finished with a 234 total in her first collegiate tournament and displayed consistent improvement throughout the event. After carding an 11-over par 83 in the first round, she earned a six-stroke improvement with a 77 in the second round and a three-stroke improvement with a 74 in the final round.

Freshman Whitney Wright (Rockingham, N.C.) also played well in her first collegiate tournament and finished with a 235 total for the 54-hole event. She carded a pair of 78’s and a 79. Junior Kristin Sordel (Windermere, Fla.) played her best round of the tournament in the third round with a five-over par 77. She, too, showed improvement as she cut four strokes from her first round score of 81. Junior Caroline Larsson (Danderyd, Sweden) played her best round over the final 18 holes with a 77 to finish with a 242 total.

Florida State continues its four-event fall season with at the Tar Heel Invitational Oct. 8-10.
