The Florida State women’s golf team enjoyed a strong fall season as it earned three top-10 team finishes in four events with its best placement of tied for seventh coming at the Lady Paladin Invitational. The Seminoles also finished tied for eighth at the ACC/SEC Challenge and ninth in the Tar Heel Invitational. The Seminoles utilized a very similar lineup throughout the season with freshman Whitney Brummett and Whitney Wright, sophomore Jaclyn Burch and senior Caroline Larsson playing in all four events. A second junior, Kristin Sordel, played in three events while senior Tyler Johnson played in one tournament.
BURCH LEADS SEMINOLES THROUGH FALL SEASON
Sophomore Jaclyn Burch (Wildwood, Mo.) finished as the Seminoles’ stroke leader during the fall season with a career-best 75.33 stroke average. She was the Seminoles top finisher in two of the four events and finished among the top three Seminoles in all four events during the fall season. Burch finished with seven rounds at 75 or below this fall after finishing with only one round at 75 or below during the fall 2003 season.
BRUMMET IS TOP AMONG THE FRESHMAN
Whitney Brummett (Eureka, Mo.) ranked second on the Seminoles with 75.50 stroke average during the fall season. She finished at the top of the Seminoles’ freshmen and carded a team-leading three rounds at par or better. Brummett finished tied with sophomore Jaclyn Burch for the team lead in rounds under 75 with seven.
The Seminoles more than doubled their total of individual rounds at par or better this fall as compared to the fall of 2003. During the fall 2003 season only two rounds were scored at par or better. This fall season five rounds were scored at par or better. In addition, there were twenty rounds at 75 or below this fall compared to fifteen last fall.
STAYING UNDER PAR MORE OFTEN
The Seminoles shot five rounds under par during the fall season, including Whitney Brummett’s team-leading three rounds under par. Last fall only two rounds were recorded under par. In the spring season last year a total fourteen rounds were carded under par.
JOHNSON MAKES FIRST START OF THE SEASON
Junior Tyler Johnson (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) made her first start this season at the ACC/SEC Challenge. It was her first appearance in the Seminoles’ starting lineup since competing in the ACC Championship during the spring of 2004. Johnson finished in a tie for 69th place in the individual standings in the ACC/SEC Challenge. Her best round was the first, where she shot an 80. Johnson improved from her last tournament, where she carded a 253, by 10 strokes.
