April 2, 2005

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. –
Florida State junior Caroline Larsson shot a one-over par 73 and moved into sixth place in the individual standings and the Seminole women’s golf team moved into a tie for second place in the team standings after two rounds of the Ryder/Florida Women’s Collegiate Championship at Don Shula’s Golf Resort. Larsson’s season-best round of 73 was tied for the best individual round of the day while the Seminoles’ 306 team total was tied for the second best of the day as both moved up in the respective standings.

Florida State, which has won this event twice in the last three years and four times under head coach Debbie Dillman since 1998, enter the final round within four strokes of Miami.

Miami maintained its lead in the team standings with a 307 team score in the second round – the Hurricanes have a 601 total for the first 36 holes. Tina Miller, a senior at Miami, also kept her lead in the individual standings and leads Amanda Smith of South Florida by one stroke heading into the final round. She leads Florida State’s Brummett by four strokes and Larsson by five strokes. Miller carded a three-over par 75 and owns a 145 total after the first 36 holes.

Larsson (Danderyd, Sweden) played her best round of the spring as she carded a one-over par 73 and has a two-day total of 150. Her 36-hole total is her best of the spring and best since carding a 149 total during the first two rounds of the ACC/SEC Challenge during the fall of 2004. Larsson is playing in her 30th consecutive tournament as a Seminole and has never missed playing in an event during her career.

Brummett (Eureka, Mo.) continued to player well and has a two-day total of 149. She carded a career-low tying 72 in Friday’s first round and is looking to earn her second career top-five individual finish. Brummett finished in a tie for fourth at the Lady Paladin Invitational during the fall of 2004.

Freshman Whitney Wright (Rockingham, N.C.) played her second straight strong round as she carded a 78 and has a two-day total of 152. Her 36-hole total is the best of her eight-tournament career as a Seminole. Wright is in a tie for 10th place in the individual standings and looking to earn the first top-10 finish of her career – her best career finish came at the fall 2004 lady Paladin Invitational when she finished in a tie for 38th place.

Sophomore Jaclyn Burch (Wildwood, Mo.) shot a 78 in the second round and is in a tie for 16th place in the individual standings with a 154 total. Senior Tyler Johnson (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) is in a tie for 53rd place with a two-day total of 167.

The third and final round is a shotgun start beginning at 8 a.m. Sunday.
