Seminole Women’s Golf Team Moves Into 6th Place At ACC Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –
Freshman Whitney Wright led the Florida State women’s golf team with a three-over par 75 and the Seminoles moved up one spot into sixth place after two rounds of the 17th Annual Atlantic Coast Conference Championship. Wright improved her score by 10 strokes in the second round while the Seminoles also counted scores of 76 by sophomore Jaclyn Burch, 78 by senior Tyler Johnson and split the score of 85 by junior Caroline Larsson and freshman Whitney Brummett.

No. 1 ranked Duke extended its lead to 34 strokes over Wake Forest as the Blue Devils finished with a 291 team total. Duke’s’ 291 team score was by far the best team score of the day and have the Blue Devils on the verge of their 10th consecutive conference championship. Duke’s Anna Grzebien is tied for first with teammate Elizabeth Janangelo as the Blue Devils hold the top four spots in the individual standings.

Wright (Rockingham, N.C.) played outstanding golf with 15 of 18 holes at par with only three bogies. It was the third best round of the spring season for Wright who carded a pair of 74’s during the Seminoles’ second place team finish at the Ryder/Florida Championship. Wright is in a tie for 20th place and begins play in Sunday’s third and final round looking for the second top-20 finish of her career.

Burch (Wildwood, Mo.) tied her season low with a four-over par 76 and is in a tie for 11th place in the individual standings. She improved her score by five strokes from her play in the first round as she tied her best round of the spring season. Burch finished in a tie fro 28th in the 2004 ACC Championship.

Senior Tyler Johnson (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) played her best round of the season as she carded a six-over par 78. It was her best round since carding a 78 in the second round of the ACC/SEC Challenge during the fall of 2004. She is in a tie for 30th place in the individual standings along with Brummett (Eureka, Mo.) while Larsson (Danderyd, Sweden) is in 29th place.

Sunday’s championship round will tee off at 8:04 Sunday morning.
