March 12, 2005

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. –
The Florida State women’s golf team moved into sixth place in the team standings and junior Jaclyn Burch and freshman Whitney Brummett have moved into a tie for 17th place in the individual standings as the second round the Lady Gamecock Classic at the University Club was played Saturday. The Seminoles improved their team standing by four positions while Burch and Brummett improved their standing by five positions over the course of the second 18 holes of the 54-hole event.

For the second consecutive day, South Carolina freshman Caroline Rominger sits atop the individual leader board. Rominger’s 148 total has her in a tie for medalist honors with New Mexico’s Kailin Downs. New Mexico, the No. 13 ranked team in the nation, remained on top of the team standings with a 621 two-day total. Playing in windy conditions for the second consecutive day, none of the 66 players in the field finished with a score under par. The nation’s 12-ranked player, Downs, led the way Saturday with a one-over par score of 73.

Burch (Wildwood, Mo.) led the Seminoles with a four over par score of 76 in the Saturday’s second round. She improved her score by eight strokes from her first round score of 84. After finishing in a tie for 33rd place at last week’s season opening Lady Gator Invitational, Burch is looking to earn the fourth top-20 finish of her two-year Seminole career.

Brummett (Eureka, Mo.) continued to fare well as a freshman and is looking to earn the fourth top-25 finish of her career. She has carded identical scores of 80 in the first and second rounds of the event. Junior Caroline Larsson (Danderyd, Sweden) is in a tie for 35th place, freshman Whitney Wright (Rockingham, N.C.) is in a tie for 42nd place and sophomore Michelle Steakin (Wellington, Fla.) is in a tie for 61st place. Junior Kristina Prestipino (Coral Spring, Fla.), who is competing as an individual, is in a tie for 56th place.

Final round action begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Sunday.
