TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
Florida State, which is ranked 28th in this week’s GolfStat/Sagarin Performance Index, plays its second event of the fall season at it travels to play in the 32nd Annual Lady Tar Heel Invitational at the University of North Carolina Golf Course Oct. 5-7. The event will be played on the par 72, 6,285-yard course on the UNC campus. Tee times begin at 9:00 a.m. Friday and Saturday with teams starting off both the #1 and #10 tees. There will be a shotgun start at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday. The Seminoles opened their fall schedule as the finished in eighth place at the Cougar Fall Classic. Florida State All-American Caroline Westrup earned individual medalist honors at the 2006 Lady Tar Heel Invitational as she carded a two-under par 214 total for the event.

No. 28 Florida State is joined by 11 teams who are ranked in the nation’s top 30 in this week’s GolfStat/Sagarin Performance Index. Also competing for the championship in the three round event are No. 2 Duke, No. 7 Auburn, No. 8 Oklahoma State, No. 11 Georgia, No. 12 Tennessee, No. 14 Texas, No. 16 Vanderbilt, No. 18 Wake Forest, No. 20 East Carolina, No. 26 North Carolina, No. 29 South Carolina, Kentucky, NC State, Texas A&M, the College of Charleston, Tulsa and Virginia.

SILVA TO MAKE COLLEGIATE DEBUT AT LADY TAR HEEL
Florida State freshman Macarena Silva (Santiago, Chile) will make her collegiate debut for the Seminoles as she plays in this weekend’s Lady Tar Heel Invitational. Silva graduated from the Athletic Study Center in her home country of Chile in 2007 and also attended the Saddlebrook Golf and Tennis Center in Tampa in 2006. She earned medalist honors at the 2006 Chilean Match Play championship and was a member of the Chilean National Golf team and traveled to play in Ecuador and Peru in 2006.
WRIGHT PLAYS BEST ROUND OF CAREER AT COUGAR INVITATIONAL
Florida State senior Whitney Wright (Rockingham, N.C.) shot a career-low 68 in the first round fall 2007 season-opening Cougar Classic. She earned six birdies and 10 holes of par on the way to her career best single-round score. Only bogeys on holes nine and 17 held her back from shooting even lower. Wright was one-under par with two birdies and one bogey on the front nine and three-under par with four birdies and only one bogey on the back nine. Wright’s previous career-low score of 71 came in the third round of the Florida State hosted spring 2007 Chrysler Challenge at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort.
WESTRUP WINS INDIVIDUAL MEDALIST HONORS AT 2006 LADY TAR HEEL
Seminole All-American Caroline Westrup (Ahus, Sweden) shot a three-under par 69 in the final round of the 2006 Lady Tar Heel and finished tied for first in the individual standings to lead the Seminoles to a 10th place finish in the team standings. Westrup finished tied for first with Ashley Knoll of Texas A&M with identical scores throughout the event – 73-72-69 for 214 totals – to earn the second individual victory of her collegiate career. Westrup was on top of her game in the third round as she carded 17 of 18 holes at par or better to finish with the second best single-round score of her Seminole career. She bogeyed her final hole to miss winning the individual title outright by one stroke. Vanderbilt won the team championship as the Commodores led the event wire-to-wire. The Commodores defeated No. 1 ranked Duke by six strokes.
