Tallahassee – The Florida State women’s tennis squad will hit the courts on Sunday afternoon, looking to stop its losing streak with a match against the LSU Tigers. The Seminoles are undefeated at home, posting five straight wins to start the season. On the road, the task of winning became tougher as the Tribe posted a 1-2 record.
The No. 54 Florida State Seminoles (6-2) take on the No. 44 Louisiana State Tigers (6-1). The Seminoles are coming off consecutive road losses to Alabama and Florida. FSU will look to get back to its winning ways as the squad returns home where they are currently undefeated on the season (5-0). LSU is coming into this match after suffering their first lost of the season to SMU. The Tigers have posted wins against such ranked opponents as No. 46 Purdue and No. 63 Rice.
The Seminoles are 40-75 all-time against the South Eastern Conference. The first meeting between the SEC and the Seminoles was in 1982 when the Noles lost to South Carolina, 7-2. Florida State holds the slight advantage over Louisiana State in women’s tennis leading the overall series 5 to 4. The Seminoles first met the Tigers in 1982 in a match that FSU won (9-0).
The most recent battle between the two schools took place last year when the Noles edged out LSU by winning the match 4-3. Last year the Noles got off to a good start winning the first point of the day by taking the doubles portion of the match. FSU then proceeded to split the singles match with LSU to help post the win. The Seminoles top three singles players Dumitrescu, Moldovan, and Denny led the Tribe to victory last year winning their matches (6-0, 6-2) (6-1, 6-2) (6-0, 6-0) respectively. They all are returning this year and will be looking to experience similar success in guiding the squad to victory.
