Seminoles’ Arrington Named Most Valuable Player At Annual Men’s Basketball Banquet

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
Senior Delvon Arrington, who led the Florida State men’s basketball team in scoring, assists and steals, was named the Seminoles’ Most Valuable Player at the team’s annual banquet held Wednesday night at the University Center Club. Arrington also earned the Bob Sura Leading Scorer Award, the Charlie Ward Defensive Award, the Otto Petty Assist Award, the Iron Man Award and was one of two recipients of the Warrior of the Year Award as head coach Steve Robinson lauded his fourth team for their accomplishments both on and off the court.


Arrington (Hillside, N.J.) enjoyed a terrific season as he averaged a career-high 11.5 points, 4.8 assists and 1.9 rebounds. He scored his career-high of 23 points against Virginia on Jan. 16, was credited with a season-high eight assists as Florida State defeated Final Four participant Maryland on Feb. 14 and had a season-high six steals against NCAA Tournament participant Georgia Tech on Feb. 28. Arrington ranked first on the team in scoring (11.5 ppg), first in assists (4.8 apg), first in steals (1.9 spg) and first in minutes played (32.7 mpg).


Michael Joiner (Fayetteville, N.C.), who was selected as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Rookie team, won the Dave Cowens Rebounding Award. Joiner averaged 6.0 rebounds per game and became only the third freshman in history to lead the Seminoles in rebounding. Junior Antwuan Dixon (Marietta, Ga.) was named as one of two recipients of the Warrior of the Year Award for excellence in academics and community service. He also served the team as a tri-captain this season was also presented with a Captains Award by Robinson.


Adrian Crawford (Akron, Ohio), the Seminoles’ only graduating senior, also earned a Captains Award. He played in 75 games during his career and ranks fourth in school history with 135 career 3-point shots made. Crawford was a member of Florida State’s 1998 NCAA Tournament team.
