TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After turning in the best dual meet record in FSU history (13-1, 5-0), the No. 22 ranked Florida State women’s swimming and diving team is ready for the 2013 ACC Championships on Feb. 20-23. It will be the first time ever the meet is held in Greensboro, N.C. at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Along with the women’s swimming and diving meet, the men’s diving competition will also be held this week. Men’s swimming will be next week (Feb. 27-March 2) also in Greensboro, N.C.
“The women’s team this year has been very competitive,” head coach Neil Harper said. “We’ve got two great divers and 17 great swimmers competing for us. This team is young and we’re excited about it. Our team is very well-rounded and we have good depth.”
The four-day competition begins on Wednesday at 7 p.m. with a pair of relays, starting with the 200 medley relay and concluding with the 800 free relay. The next three days, will contain both individual and relay events, following a prelim/final format. Prelims will start at 11 a.m. each day with finals beginning at 7 p.m.
Florida State finished tied atop of the ACC with the five-time ACC Champions Virginia (3-0). The Cavaliers are ranked 11th nationally.
Individually, junior Tiffany Oliver heads into the conference meet with the top times in the 50 free (22.30) and 100 free (48.57) while senior Kristine Polley leads the league in the 200 breast with a time of 2:13.74.
“We definitely have the athletes to give it all we’ve got this year,” Harper said. “There’s nothing like an ACC Championships. It’s all about the team. It’s a great experience. Our team atmosphere is great right now and we’re looking forward to getting going.”
