Seminoles Begin Last Three-A-Day Session Of The Preseason

Aug. 18, 2001

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 13th-ranked Florida State soccer team entered its last three-a-day session of the preseason Saturday and between the 440’s and two practices, they took some time to eat lunch with the media. Below are some of what was said about three-a-day practices and where the team stands with just one week left before their preseason opener versus Georgia.

Marte Vik Edvardsen
Midfielder

“Things are going well especially since this is the final day of three-a-days. My expectations are high because the freshmen look great from a fitness and soccer standpoint so I am very excited by what I have seen. Also, the returnees have improved so much and you can see the hard work they put in over the summer to come back in such great shape. I am impressed with all of them and it makes me so excited for the season.”

“Our schedule is very difficult this year. Compared to last season, we have so many difficult games on the road and then we also added Santa Clara and Portland. It is always harder to play away from your stadium and fans. This season though, all of our players have so much more confidence based on last season’s success and everyone has a desire to win that we haven’t seen here in the past. That should be a big advantage for us.”

Jenny Garcia
Midfielder

“I think we are getting better everyday and we are improving. We are fighting through the three-a-days and the fitness and most importantly we are doing it as a team. I think we are really sticking together this year and the freshmen are starting to come out and play tougher. Everyone is getting along very well.”

“Individually, I think my game is improving. I am excited about where I am at this point and if I keep working hard it will just get even better. I have high expectations for myself. I want to continually strive to become a better player and improve every facet of my game.”

Maren Vik Edvardsen
Forward

“The first week has been very good for myself and the team as a whole. I am pretty happy with my game individually. I played so much this summer to put myself in a position to help this team as a senior. I came in very fit because of the amount of time I trained back home and I just want to contribute to our success in my final season.”
