Tallahassee, Fla.The Seminole football team got down to the business of preparing for their toughest test of the year on Tuesday. Florida State (5-3, 2-3) spent 21 periods in full pads as the squad began to prepare for Heisman Trophy candidate Matt Ryan and the second-ranked BC Eagles (8-0, 4-0). Boston College is the highest ranked team FSU has faced since battling No. 2 Miami in 2003.

Coach Bowden Quotes

On the running game against Boston College:

“Well, they do have a very tough defense; there is no doubt about that. The front seven is real good. They’re not where they are by accident, they’re where they are because they are good. I think they have 17 graduates on their football team. They got the maturity going for them, too.”

On playing Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan:

“Well, that’s a great opportunity. You’re playing against, I was talking to a pro scout out there today, in his opinion, will be the first guy picked in the draft. So it gives you a great opportunity to play against a great player.”

On how to stop Matt Ryan:

“It will be nice to get some pressure on him. That will be the starting place, to get some pressure on him. Then if you don’t, you’re gonna have to cover, gonna have to cover well.”

On Christian Ponder and D’Vontrey Richardson

“Well, there are coming along. They are both very good prospects. They are coming along, totally inexperienced. They all got good arms.”

QB Christian Ponder:

On who will be second string:

“Me and D’Vo (D’Vontrey Richardson) went half and half with the twos. I think we both had pretty good days today. Coach will probably decide by the end of the week.”

On how he felt hearing the news that he would have a chance to compete for the No. 2 spot:

“I was a little nervous. I haven’t been taking significant reps since two-a-days so I just got to get back in the groove and hopefully relax a little bit and just get better. I feel pretty confident. I had a good day today which helped out coming out the first day doing the scout team. I went in and watched film last night and tonight. I’m just trying to catch up on a lot of things.

“I’ll be ready, definitely. I’m doing everything I can to prepare just in case something bad happens and I’ll be ready if given the opportunity.”

On maybe playing his first game ever at Boston College:

“It’s a tough situation no matter what, if you are a three year starter like Drew is or if it’s your first game it’s gonna be tough no matter what.”

DL Andre Fluellen:

On how his injury is progressing:
“I’m getting a little bit of motion. I can push off a little bit better. Not like it was before. It’s coming back, I went out there today, it felt pretty sore, but that will hopefully go away by Saturday.”

On having to face Boston College‘s rushing and passing:

“Every time you have a running game, it sets up the passing game. If you can get the defense on the field and have them playing the run and just shuffle up the middle, double on long, just have everyone coming up on the run. It goes hand and hand passing game with the running game for them. They have a great offensive line. They have a well balanced team, they all play with each other. It’s a hard team to play against they have no, well except for Matt Ryan, superstars on the team, but everyone does their job and everybody does it very well.”
