Seminoles’ Blixt Earns Medalist Honors; FSU Finishes Third At Shoal Creek Intercollegiate

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
Florida State University junior Jonas Blixt claimed individual medalist honors and the Seminole men’s golf team finished third in the team standings as play at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate at the Shoal Creek Golf Club finished on Tuesday. Blixt carded a career-best 67 in the final round to win the in the individual championship. The individual championship marked the second of Blixt’s career; he also won medalist honors at the Gator Invitational during the spring of 2005.

Alabama led the event wire-to-wire and won the team championship with a three-round score of 869. The Crimson Tide defeated Tennessee by six strokes and Florida State by 13 strokes. Blixt outdistanced Brian Noonan of LSU by three strokes to win the individual championship. He entered the final day tied for seventh and four strokes behind Noonan who began the day in third place. Blixt gained seven strokes on Noonan over the final 18 holes to claim the win.

Blixt (Hammaro, Sweden) played his best round of golf as a collegian with his final round 67 and finished with the second best tournament score of his career to win the event. He shot a career-best 67 in the final round and finished with a 211 tournament score. He missed tying his personal tournament score best of 209 which he carded in winning the Gator Invitational during the spring of 2005.

Sophomore Matt Savage (Louisville, Ky.) finished in third place in the individual standings to earn the best finish of his Seminole career. He carded a two-over par 74 in the final round and finished with a three-round total of 215. Savage carded a three-under par 69 in the first round and an even-par 72 in the second round. His pervious best finish of tied for 10th place came at the Linger Longer Invitational during the spring of 2006.

Freshman Cameron Knight (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) finished well after carding a two-under par 70 in the second round. He finished tied for 37th in the first event of his collegiate career. Knight shot a final round 76 to finish with a 226 total for the event. Senior Torstein Nevestad (Oslo, Norway) and junior Tommy Rymer (Hastings, Minn.) finished in tied for 62nd and in 65th place respectively.
