Oct. 12, 2013

GAINESVILLE, Fla.  –  The Florida State women’s tennis team closed out the Bedford cup on Saturday at the Ring Tennis Complex at the University of Florida.

Junior Kerrie Cartwright advanced into the quarterfinal of singles behind two wins on Friday, including a tough, 6-4, 7-5 second set comeback win.

In Saturday’s match, Cartwright fell to Olya Garrido-Riyas of South Florida, 6-1, 6-1.

“Kerrie just came across an opponent today that was on fire,” head coach Jennifer Hyde said. “The good thing is we’ve seen a huge improvement in her game and we know what we need to do this week in practice in order to prepare for next weekend.”

The Seminoles finished their second tournament of the fall by notching six wins between singles and doubles play.

Florida State will head to the ITA South Regional Championships in Athens, Ga. from Oct.18-21.  This tournament will provide the chance for individuals to qualify for the ITA National Indoor Championships on Nov.7-9 in New York.
