Seminoles Close Out Fall Season at Georgia Tech Invitational

Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis team ended the season on a fairly good note with three doubles wins and four singles victories at the 2004 Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Ga. The Seminoles concluded the tournament and the fall season on Sunday, November 07, 2004.

Florida State opened the morning with the doubles matches against Marshall, a team they defeated in the 2003 NCAA Tournament. Sophomore Lindsay Deason (Ft. Myers, FL/Boca Raton Prep) and senior Mihaela Moldovan (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) won against Joelle Good and Danielle Hock, 8-2, while sophomore Roxanne Clarke (Cape Town, South Africa/Clapham) and junior transfer Miranda Foley (Cambridge, England/Houston) picked up a doubles victory over Ashley Kroh and Alizee Paradis, 8-1. Senior Amberly Tantee (Dana Point, CA/Futures) and freshman Tapiwa Marobela (Garborone, Botswana/Clapham) took the third doubles win of the day besting Shannon Brown and Jeanne Schwartz, 8-6.

Senior Natalie Tirapelli (St. Petersburg, FL/Connecticut) and freshman Yana Stoeva (Vratsa, Bulgaria/Saint Kliment Ohridski) dropped their match to Lille Nzudie and Asel, 8-5.

Against a tough Georgia Tech lineup, the Seminoles walked away with four singles wins of which three went to a third set tiebreaker. Moldovan defeated the Yellow Jackets’ Kristi Miller in three sets, 7-6(5), 1-6, 6-2. Tirapelli won against Lindsey Stauss in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Marobela bested Lyndsay Shosho 5-7, 7-6, 6-4 and Stoeva beat Esther van Londen 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Deason lost to Dasha Potapova in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 and Clarke lost to Kelly Anderson 6-1, 6-1. Foley dropped a tough match against Alison Silverio 7-5, 6-2 and Amberly Tantee ended the fall season with a 7-5, 6-4 loss.

FSU returns to the court in January for the spring dual match season.
