Seminoles.com Announces Baseball Team of the Century

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – May 26, 1999 – To commemorate the millennium,
Seminoles.com, Florida State’s official athletic site, allowed fans to vote
for the “All-time Baseball Team of the Century.” The program ran from
March 22 – May 16, 1999 exclusively on Seminoles.com.


Visitors to the site were able to cast their ballot at each position among
selected candidates for the “All-time Baseball Team.” The tightest race
for all-time team selection was at third base where Juan Bonilla defeated
Mickey Lopez and Ron Cash by one vote. Not surprisingly, former Golden
Spikes winner and current St. Louis Cardinal J.D. Drew was the top
vote-getter receiving 90 percent of the centerfield votes. Selected to the
all-time team were:

1B - Eduardo Perez - 43%  LF - Jeremy Morris - 49%
2B - Luis Alicea - 67%    CF - J.D. Drew - 90%
SS - Dick Howser - 48%    RF - Matt Diaz - 52%
3B - Juan Bonilla - 27%   SP - Paul Wilson - 38%
C - Terry Kennedy - 48%   RP - Phil Olson - 34%
