TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The No. 1 ranked Florida State Seminoles held their
final practice before their ACC showdown with No. 10 Georgia Tech this
Saturday at Doak Campbell Stadium at 8:00 p.m. on ABC. The team
practiced outside on the practice fields for approximately 20 minutes
before moving inside due to the rain.
“We decided to go outside early because of the threat of rain,”
said head coach Bobby Bowden. “It worked out well because we were able
to get our kicking game in outside and that is the one thing you can’t
The team moved inside and worked on offensive and defensive
assignments for Saturday’s game against the Yellow Jackets.
“We need to put it together this weekend,” said Bowden. “The
team has practiced hard the last two weeks. I think Chris (Weinke) has
got that big game under his belt and is ready to go. I told Mark Richt
to let him fire it.”
Tight end Nick Franklin underwent an MRI this afternoon, but the
results were inconclusive so he will have to take another. Franklin is
out for Saturday’s contest.
Fullback William McCray had successful surgery on his fractured
right ankle at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital today. McCray had a plate
and five screws inserted in order to support his ankle and will not be
able to put weight on the foot for at least eight weeks.
In addition to Franklin and McCray, the following is the injury
report for Saturday’s game: WR Anquan Boldin – right ankle
(questionable), WR Laveranues Coles – sprained left knee (probable), WR
Ron Dugans – fractured finger (probable), DB Abdual Howard – hamstring
(probable), WR Marvin Minnis – broken foot (out), DE Chris Walker –
right knee sprain (out), RB Davy Ford (out).
