Seminoles Complete NCAA Indoor Track & Field Competition

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Florida State track and field members wrapped
up action at the 1999 NCAA Indoor Championships this evening at the RCA
Dome.



The women’s 4x400m relay team of Laura Gerber, Samantha George,
Chinette Johnson and Fiona Norwood were the top finishers for FSU as they
placed 11th overall. The group crossed the finish line with a season-best
time of 3:38.39 with Texas taking the title in 3:31.55. Florida State’s
qualfiying time of 3:39.04 came at the Cyclone Classic.



Joseph Lawrence finished 15th in the men’s weight throw with a toss
of 18.5m (60-6.33). A native of Cocoa, FL, Lawrence had a qualifying mark
of 65-2.25 that was set in winning an ACC championship. It also
established a new conference record in the event.



Jason Dean, a sophomore from Clearwater, FL, did not record a
height in the men’s pole vault. Dean qualfied with a personal best pole
vault of 17-4.50. The mark, which he set in winning the ACC title, ranked
15th in the country going into the NCAA Championships.



Yesterday, Tonya Carter ran in the prelims of the women’s 60m dash,
but did not qualify for the finals as she ran 7.45 to finish fifth in her
heat.



The Florida State men’s and women’s track teams will begin the
outdoor season next weekend at the FAMU Relays.
