The Florida State women’s basketball team concluded its 10 days of practice Tuesday for its Tour of Italy and will depart Tallahassee for Rome Wednesday afternoon. The Tribe will play four games against all-star club teams throughout the 10-day tour and will travel the countryside by bus and visit several cities including Rome, Florence, Pisa, Venice and Lake Como.
The Seminoles are coming off of a 24-8 season and a second round NCAA Tournament appearance. The nine returning players from that squad reassembled on August 6th to begin practice for the tour.
“Having the opportunity to travel to Italy and being able to bring the returning players back early and put them on the court is August is going to help us to take what we were able to do last year a step further well before the season,” Semrau said. “We believe this entire experience will be important to our overall growth as a program.”
Back in August of 2000, the program was able to play overseas with a summer tour of France and Switzerland. That trip was followed by a successful season as the 2000-01 Seminoles advanced to the NCAA Tournament, marking FSU’s first trip to the Big Dance since the 1990-91 season.
“Having the chance to spend the next 10 days together while learning a new culture and getting to play some basketball will be such a bonding experience for this group,” Semrau said. “It’s an excited time for all of us.”
