TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Tim Pickett scored 17 points and Florida State
extended its best start in seven seasons, beating South Carolina State 81-46 on
Thurman Zimmerman had a game-high 25 points for South Carolina St. (1-2).
Zimmerman made 9-of-18 shots from the field, but his teammates combined to
shoot only 3-for-34 (8.8 percent) in the game.
Florida State shot 55.4 percent from the floor.
South Carolina State was within 21-15 with 7:59 left in the half, but missed
seven of its next eight field goal attempts in a 16-6 Florida State run that
gave the Seminoles a 16-point lead.
Thornton had Florida State’s last 10 points of that pre-halftime burst, all
coming on either layups or dunks and within a span of 2:30.
