Seminoles Defeat Owls 6-1After Weather Delays

Houston, Texas – No. 60 Florida State (2-1) defeated No. 62 Rice (2-4) after inclement weather conditions forced them off the courts twice. The Seminoles won 6-1 at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium on Friday, February 9.

In singles play, freshman Lauren Macfarlane (Ogden, Utah) won a tough match against Julie Chao 7-6(1), 6-3 while freshman Jessica Wente (Whitehouse, Texas) defeated Tiffany Lee 6-4, 3-6, 10-4. Defeating Dominique Karas was senior Nicola Slater (Ayr, Scotland) 6-1, 6-1 as senior Miranda Foley (Cambridge, England) won 6-2, 6-3 against Rebecca Lin. Junior Tapiwa Marobela (Gaborone, Botswana) defeated Emily Braid 6-3, 6-1.

In doubles play the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions were extremely close with the Seminoles coming on top with the No. 27 Macfarlane/Slater duo beating Lee/Chao 7-6 (1), 6-3 while junior Carolin Walter (Bingen, Germany) with Marobela defeated Lin/Karas 9-7. Foley/Wente defeated Braid with Christina Dao 8-2.

Florida State faces Houston this Sunday at 1 pm, if weather conditions are bad, the match will be moved to an indoor court and could move to 7 pm. The Seminoles next home match is February 17 verses Stetson and Florida A&M.
