CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Florida State dropped its ACC opener at North Carolina, 1-0, after the Tar Heels managed a sixth inning home run. The Seminoles, now 16-5, will return to Anderson Stadium for a doubleheader at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow to finish the series with the Tar Heels (19-3).
Picking up the loss was Terese Gober who entered the game in the fifth, giving up one earned on one hit, a home run to center, while striking out four. The junior is now 11-3 after relieving Sarah Hamilton who struck out six batters, gave up a pair of hits, walked one and hit a batter.
Florida State had a plethora of opportunities to score in the first after loading the bases on a hit from Carly Wynn an error on the UNC pitcher and a hit batter. Despite their best efforts, the Noles would not score after back-to-back batters struck out.
Wynn was 2-for-3 while freshman Shayla Jackson picked up the third hit for FSU in the third.
It was North Carolina’s Brittany McKinney who ended the scoreless streak with a homer to centerfield in the bottom of the sixth, her third this year.
