TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Jason Collier scored a career-high 30 points and
Alvin Jones had half of his career-best 28 in the two overtimes as Georgia Tech
beat Florida State 111-108 Thursday night.
The 6-foot-11 Jones was 10-of-12 from the field and had 17 rebounds for the
Yellow Jackets (14-10, 5-7 Atlantic Coast Conference), while the 7-0 Collier
had 10 rebounds.
Terrell Baker scored 26 points and Ron Hale added 24 for Florida State
(12-11, 5-6), which has lost four straight conference games.
Florida State’s Adrian Crawford hit a running jumper in the lane with 4.5
seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into the first overtime tied
Little-used Florida State sophomore Ron Thompson and Jones each scored eight
points in the first overtime that ended tied 103-103.
Jones had all but two of the Yellow Jackets’ points in the second overtime.
Tony Akins added 18 points and Jason Floyd had 16 for Georgia Tech, which
was 14-of-34 from 3-point range.
Thompson was pressed into action after four Seminoles had fouled out of the
game. A fifth, Hale, fouled out in the second overtime.
Florida State took its first lead in the game at 75-73 with 6:55 left on a
3-pointer by Hale and the game see-sawed the rest of the way.
