TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Junior guard Tim Pickett led Florida State with 29 points and 4 steals on Sunday, but the Seminoles still fell 87-84 to Team Nike in a double-overtime exhibition game.
Florida State almost forced a third overtime after Andrew Wilson snagged an offensive rebound and tied the score at 84 with 8.3 seconds left, but Nike’s Jamaal Davis sunk a three-pointer at the buzzer to end it.
Pickett’s three-pointer in regulation tied the game at 69 to force the first overtime, in which he posted 5 of the Seminoles’ 10 points.
“You can see that he’s feisty, and he’s aggressive, and he plays with a full heart, and that’s what we’re going to need on this team,” coach Leonard Hamilton said of Pickett.
Hamilton, who turned around underachieving programs at Miami and Oklahoma State, was hired in March to resurrect a program that has posted four straight losing seasons.
The Seminoles open the regular season Nov. 24 at home against Savannah State.
