ATHENS, Ga. –
The Florida State men’s swimming and diving team had a better day in the pool Friday afternoon at the 2002 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Athens, Ga. with two top 25 finishes. However, the Seminoles were unable to score any team points for the second day in a row.
Freshman diver Louie Gagnet (Mission Viejo, Calif.) turned in the best performance Friday with an 18th-place finish on the three-meter with a score of 503.55. Ganget was only two spots out of All-America honorable mention honors and earning team points.
Junior Justin Betts (Springfield, Va.) finished 24th in the 100-yard breaststroke. Betts touched the wall with a time of 55.26.
Saturday will be the final day of competition at the NCAA meet and will also be the last chance for the Tribe to score points. Gagnet will compete on the platform, while Betts will swim in the 200-breast.
Preliminary heats for the swimming events will begin at 11 a.m., while the diving prelims start at 1 p.m. Finals competition starts at 7 p.m.
