Tallahassee, Fla. – The No. 32 Florida State women’s tennis team edged USF, 4-3 in an afternoon contest at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts in Tampa, Fla., on Wednesday, March 2, 2005. FSU took two of three doubles matches and three of six singles to put points on the board in the team victory.
In a changed doubles lineup, sophomore captain Roxanne Clarke (Cape Town, South Africa/Clapham) and senior Amberly Tantee (Dana Point, Calif./Futures) won at the number two doubles position, outlasting the Bulls tandem of Vernon and Cruz, 9-8 (7-2). The Tribe picked up the win by default at the number three position to take the point.
At number one doubles, eighth-ranked tandem of senior Mihaela Moldovan (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) and junior Lindsay Deason (Fort Myers, Fla./Boca Raton Prep) lost in the number one slot, 8-1.
In singles, the Seminoles only had to win one match, since USF forfeited the last two positions. Moldovan came through beating Vernon in three sets, 6-7, 6-2, 6-0.
Florida State turns its attention to the west coast, heading to San Diego, Calif., for a two matches. The first serve is set for March 6 against San Diego while the second contest is scheduled for March 8 against San Diego State.
