TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State Lady Seminoles, in the midst of one of the best seasons in the school’s history, concluded its 1999 home schedule with a convincing 9-0 victory over the North Carolina State Lady Wolfpack.
The 20th-ranked Lady Seminoles, improved to 17-4 overall with the victory, 3-1 in ACC play.
Coach Lise Gregory, who saw her team struggle to a 2-6 conference record last year, knows her team is on the right track.
“Our goal is still winning the ACC. We would love to be 4-0 in the conference, but we just want to get to the tournament and start all over,” said an excited Gregory.
After sweeping the singles matches, Florida State’s number one doubles team of Alida Gallovits and Nanette Duxin finished the shutout victory with an exciting 9-8 triumph over Nena Bonacic and Brie Glover.
The Lady Seminoles will now prepare for one of their toughest tests of the season, a weekend road trip to second-ranked Duke and much-improved North Carolina.
Gregory knows the upcoming week will be a challenge for her team.
“Duke is very tough, and North Carolina is much better this year.
“We’ll have our work cut out for us,” Gregory said.
Florida State finished the 1999 season with an 11-3 record at home.
