Seminoles Finish 11th At Hootie At Bulls Bay Men’s Golf Tournament

Freshman Jonas Blixt and sophomore Bradley Ruch finished tied for 32nd place in the individual standings and the Florida State men’s golf team finished in 11th place as competition in the inaugural Hootie At Bulls Bay Intercollegiate came to a close. The 15-team field played 54 holes in two days after the first round was washed out by rain Sunday and suspended by darkness Monday.

Kentucky defeated Augusta State on the first playoff hole to win the team championship. The Wildcats, ranked No. 23 in the nation in the most recent GolfWeek/Sagarin rankings, led the event of the final two rounds after finishing in a tie for fourth after the first round. Scott Jamieson of Augusta State earned medalist honors as he led the individual standings wire-to-wire.

Blixt (Nassjo, Sweden) earned his fifth career top-50 finish in six career events. He carded back-to-back rounds of one-under par 71 in the first and second rounds. Blixt has shot a team-leading seven rounds with scores at 75 or better this spring and has finished as the Seminoles’ leader in three tournaments during the first year of his collegiate career.

Ruch (Louisville, Ky.) played well in his first event of the spring as he earned the ninth top 50 individual finish of his career. He played his best golf of the tournament as he carded a one-under par 71 in the second round. In finishing in a tie for the Seminoles’ team lead, he has now finished as the team leader (or tied for the team lead) three times during his career.

Sophomore Torstein Nevestad (Oslo, Norway) and senior Rusty Mosley (Vidalia, Ga.) finished tied for 40th place in the individual standings with identical scores of 226. Both players carded the same scores in each round – 76-73-77 – and played their best golf in the second round of the event. Freshman Song Jeon (Seoul, Korea) finished in a tied for 59th place with a 230 total.

The Seminoles close out their regular season as they play in the Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate Hosted By NC State, April 8-9, at MacGregor Downs on Cary, N.C.
