Seminoles Finish Fifth at SMU Classic

DALLAS, TX. – A small delegation of the Florida State women’s swimming and diving team headed to Dallas for the two-day SMU Classic invitational and turned out a fifth place team finish. 

Swimmers Shanda Casella, Tiffany Elias, C.J. Hendry, Jocelyn Phillips, Kristine Polley, Jessica Sabotin, Stephanie Sarandos, Caroline Smith and diver Katherine Adham combined for a team score of 257 points.

The Seminoles relay teams finished fourth in the 400 medley relay (3:52.32), 800 freestyle relay (7:33.96), 400 freestyle relay (3:27.42) and 200 freestyle relay (1:34.41).

Casella finished fourth in 50 freestyle (24.06) and the 100 free (52.78). 

Elias claimed second place in the 200 butterfly (2:04.24) and ninth in the 100 butterfly (57.08) and 500 freestyle (5:01.72).

Hendry earned a third place finish in the 100 butterfly (56.93), eighth in the 100 backstroke (58.49) and tenth in the 200 backstroke (2:04.13).

Phillips claimed second in the 200 freestyle (1:51.01) and ninth in the 50 freestyle (23.95) and 100 freestyle (51.78).

Freshman standout Polley finished third in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.37) and fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.69).

Sabotin came in fourth in the 400 IM (4:32.47) and 100 breaststroke (1:07.10), sixth in the 200 IM (2:07.72) and tenth in the 200 breaststroke (2:22.63).

Sarandos finished fifth in the 100 backstroke (57.43) and 200 backstroke (2:01.87), and eighth in the 200 IM (2:06.96)

Smith claimed fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:04.06), 10th in the 200 freestyle (1:53.83), 11th in the 200 butterfly (2:07.31) and 12th in the 400 IM (4:37.84).

Adham, the lone Seminole diver, finished second in the three-meter dive (311.50) and fourth in the one-meter dive (280.05).

The meet featured five other women’s teams from University of Florida, University of Louisville, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Rice University and meet host Southern Methodist University.

The Florida Gators won the meet with an overall score of 357 points. 

Up next, Florida State hosts LSU on November 7, at 2:00pm at the Morcom Aquatics Center.
