Sept. 28, 2004

FRANKLIN, Tenn. –
The Florida State men’s golf team finished in a tie for fourth place at the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate at the Legends Club at Vanderbilt University. It marked the highest team finish for the Seminoles since finishing in third place at the spring 2001 Cavalier Classic. Florida State was led by seniors Matt Adcock and Rusty Mosley who finished in a tie for ninth place in the individual standings. It marked the first time since the spring 1998 Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate that two Seminoles had finished in the top-10 in the same tournament.

Georgia State blistered the field for the third consecutive round easily winning the team championship. Georgia State, 11th last year at the NCAA Championships, shot 21-under par for 54 holes to beat host Vanderbilt by 20 shots. Alabama rallied in its final round to place third in a 15-team field. Ty Harris, a senior at Georgia State, led wire-to-wire, establishing a tournament record with an 18-under par 195. The Tampa product shot seven-under 64 today after opening with 63-68.

Adcock (Apopka, Fla.) led the Seminoles with a two-under par 69 in the final round to finish the three-round event with a one-under par 212. His third round score of 69 was only one stoke off his career best of 68 which he carded at the fall 2003 Kiawah Island Intercollegiate and marked the third time he had finished with a sub-70 round. He set a new personal career best with his 212 tournament score – one stroke below the 213 he finished with at the fall 2002 Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate.

Mosley (Vidalia, Ga.) closed the event with a one-over par 72 and also finished with a one-under par total of 212. He carded identical scores of 70 in the first two rounds of the event. Mosley’s three-round score of 212 was only one stroke above his personal career best which came at the fall 2002 Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate.

Sophomore Bradley Ruch (Louisville, Ky.) played well and finished in a tie for 21st place with a three-day total of 214. He finished the event with an even par 71 in the third round. Ruch’s 214 total marked a career-best for his 10-event collegiate career. He tied his career low in the first round of the event with a two-under par 69. Freshman Jonas Blixt (Nassjo, Sweden) finished in a tie for 35th place after carding a one over par 72i n the third round while junior Jacob Davis (DeLand, Fla.) finished in a tie for 65th place in his first event as a Seminole.

“I very proud of the way all of our guys played,” said second-year head coach Trey Jones. “We were eight over par entering the last eight holes in the third round and finished the round at even par. We are learning how to compete and played with five guys who are very competitive. I know that when they have finished they have left their all on the course,” he said.
