Seminoles Finish In 11th Place At Gator Men’s Golf Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. –
Junior Peter Mitchell finished in a tie for 24th-place with a career-best 216 tournament score to lead the Florida State University men’s golf team to an 11th-place finish at the Gator Men’s Golf Invitational at the University of Florida Golf Course. Mitchell shot three scores of 72 during the 54-hole tournament and finished with a six-over par score of 216. The single-round scores of 72, the tournament score of 216 and the overall finish of tied for 24th-place were all career-bests for Mitchell.


Florida State performed well as a team with three strong scores of 289-291-296 for the three-round event. The Seminoles’ first round score of 289 and their second round score of 291 are the two lowest single round scores under second-year head coach Nicky Goetze.


Louisiana State won the team title with a three-round total of 846. The Tigers closed the tournament with scores of 277 in the second round and 280 in the third to gain the come from behind victory. Nathan Goulding led a pair of Tiger players who finished in the top ten in leading Louisiana State to the victory. Graeme McDowell of the University of Alabama at Birmingham earned individual medallist honors with a 10-under par score of 220.


The Seminoles continue their schedule as they travel to play in the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship in Jacksonville, Fla., Feb. 18-19. The Florida State plays host the to the Seminole Intercollegiate March 11-12 at Golden Eagle Country Club in Tallahassee.
