Seminoles Finish In Tie For Second At Ryder/Florida Women’s Golf Championship

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. –
The Florida State women’s golf team had three players finish in the top 10 of the individual standings, including freshman Whitney Brummett who finished in a tie for third place, and the Seminoles finished in a tie for second place at the Ryder/Florida Collegiate Championship at Don Shula’s Golf Resort. Florida State made up three strokes on Miami during the final round but lost the team championship to the Hurricanes by a single stroke. Miami won the event with a three round score of 912 while the Seminoles and South Florida finished in a tie for second with identical team scores of 912.

Miami senior Tina Miller recorded her third individual victory of the season to lead the Hurricanes. Miller recorded a final round 77 to finish the three-day tournament with a six-over-par 222, one stroke better than Miami sophomore Josie Shinn who finished second with a 223 total.

Brummett (Eureka, Mo.) earned the best finish of her career as she closed the 54-hole event with a four-over par 76 in the final round for a 225 total. Her finish was one place better than her previous career best (tied for fourth at the fall 2004 Lady Paladin Invitational) while she was only seven stokes off her career-best tournament score (218 also at the fall 2004 Lady Paladin Invitational). She now has two career top-five finishes and five career top-25 finishes.

Freshman Whitney Wright (Rockingham, N.C.) played the best golf of her Seminole career as she finished in a tie for fifth place with a 226 total. She established career bests for finish (tied for fifth), tournament score (223) and 36-hole score (152) in leading the Seminoles to their best finish of the season.

Junior Caroline Larsson (Danderyd, Sweden) finished with her best effort of the season as she totaled 228 and finished in seventh place. She carded a one-over par 73 in the second round in earning the third top 10 finish of her career. Larsson finished in seventh in this event last season and in a career-best tied for fourth at the spring 2003 Ryder/Florida Championship.

Junior Jaclyn Burch (Wildwood. Mo.) earned the fourth top-20 individual finish of her career as she finished in a tie for 18th place. She carded a 76 in the first round of the event and finished with a 234 team total. Senior Tyler Johnson (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) finished in a tie for 61st place in the individual standings.

Florida State has a week off before playing in the ACC Women’s Golf Championships, April 15-17, in Charlotte, N.C.
