Seminoles Finish Louisiana Tech Preparations

Aug. 26, 1999

TALLAHASSEE, FL — Top-ranked Florida State concluded workouts for
its season-opener with Louisiana Tech on Saturday with a 15-period practice
in shorts today at Ed Williamson Practice Fields.

“Our guys are about as ready as can be,” said FSU head coach Bobby
Bowden, who begins his 24th season at the school on Saturday. “They are
tired of hitting each other and want to go out and face someone else. We
have had solid preparations for the game and now it is time to go out and
play.”

The Seminoles went through their game plan for Saturday against
their scout offensive and defensive units.

Bowden announced that senior tailback Raymont Skaggs will, in all
likelihood, sit out the 1999 season as a redshirt.

“It is something that he came to the coaches about,” said Bowden.
“He talked with me and Billy Sexton about it and he wants to do it.”

Skaggs was listed as doubtful for Saturday’s game with sore ribs.

Junior linebacker Brian Allen is also listed as doubtful for the
contest with a left hamstring strain. If Allen does not start, senior
Theon Rackley, a native of Tallahassee, would take his place.

Here is the rest of head trainer Randy Oravetz’s injury report:

OUT — wide receiver Ron Dugans (finger), wide receiver Marvin
Minnis (foot), wide receiver Lavernues Coles (knee), defensive tackle Rian
Cason (neck).

Saturday’s game kicks off at 5:00 p.m. and will be broadcast
nationally on ESPN2.
