Seminoles Finish Ninth At Rain Shortened Bryan National Collegiate Women’s Golf Tournament

March 30, 2003

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. –
The 21st ranked Florida State women’s golf team finished in ninth place at the rain-shortened Bryan National Collegiate women’s golf tournament at the Bryan Park Champions Course. The final round of the event was cancelled Sunday when rain forced the event format to be shortened from 54 holes to 36 holes. Seminole junior Katie Quinney gained the second top-10 finish of her two-year Florida State career as she finished tied for ninth in the individual standings.

The Seminoles have played only three rounds in their last two tournaments (out of a possible six) because of rain in South Carolina and North Carolina in the last two weeks. Florida State finished as the third highest-ranking ACC of the five conference teams that played in this weekend’s event.

Duke won its third consecutive Bryan National Collegiate championship as it finished with a four-over par team score of 580. The Blue Devils edged Vanderbilt, who shot a two-round team total of 584, by four strokes. Wake Forest’s Nuria Clau won a tie-breaker for the individual title after finishing in a four-way tie for first place.

Quinney (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) finished in a tie for ninth in the individual standings with a two-round total of 146. She shot a career-low single-round score of 70 in the second round. Quinney’s top-ten finish is the second of her 16-event Seminole career. She finished in seventh place at the Ryder/Florida Championship during the spring of 2002.

Senior All-America candidate Kristin Tamulis (Naples, Fla.) finished in a tie for 27th place with a two-round total of 151. She is ranked 18th in the individual GolfWeek/Sagarin Power rankings.

Freshman Caroline Larsson (Danderyd, Sweden) earned her second top-30 finish of the spring season as she finished tied with Tamulis in 27th place. Junior Carrie Sordel (Windermere, Fla.) finished in a tie for 63rd place and junior Alison Curdt (St. Louis, Mo.) finished in a tie for 77th place.

Florida State begins its Ryder/Florida State Championship Tournament title defense Friday at Don Shula’s Golf Club in Miami Lakes, Fla.
