The Seminoles: Florida State enters the series with No. 6 Florida with an 12-1 record and holds consensus No. 1 ranking for the second consecutive week by Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball and Baseball Weekly.

  • The last time FSU held a consensus #1 ranking was the week of Feb. 24, 1997. The Tribe held it for two weeks (Feb. 17 & Feb. 24).
  • 3B Marshall McDougall was voted ACC Player of the Week this week after batting .400 with 11 RBI and 3 HR. He has recorded an RBI in seven straight games and scored a run in every game this season.
  • RF Matt Diaz is also riding an 11-game hitting streak.
  • FSU is batting .340, has hit 23 home runs while averaging 10.9 runs per game.
  • The Seminole pitching staff has posted a 2.46 ERA and opponents are batting just .198 against FSU. The staff is averaging 10.0 strikeouts per game.
  • FSU has allowed double-digit hits by opponents just once this season (10 against Arizona St.), and opponents scored five runs or more runs just twice this year.

On the Mound: RHP Jon McDonald (2-0, 2.89 ERA) come back Saturday to start against the Gators after a no-decision last weekend. RHP Nick Stocks (3-0 3.57 ERA), who struck out eight in a 12-3 win over the Gators last weekend, will pitch against UF on Sunday.

Scouting the Opponent: Florida (3-3) is ranked sixth by Collegiate Baseball, No. 11 by Baseball America and 13th by Baseball Weekly. RHP Matt McClendon (1-0) will start for the Gators on Saturday, Sunday’s starter is TBA. The Gators will play Florida A&M on Wednesday before the series.

Mike Martin is in his 20th season as the head coach of the Seminoles fresh off his 10th College World Series appearance. Martin, who is one of four Florida State coaches with 20 or more years of service, has brought the Seminoles to an NCAA Regional in each of his last 19 years. Under Martin, Florida State has become a national power in collegiate baseball, finishing in the Baseball America’s Top 10 in nine of the last 10 seasons.
