Tallahassee, FL –
The 21st-ranked Florida State soccer team (13-6-3) will pack heavy jackets and an undefeated road record when they travel to Storrs, CT to face No. 4 UConn (20-2-1) Sunday, November 24 at 1:00 p.m. The Huskies, the No. 4 national seed in the 2002 NCAA Tournament, are undefeated this season at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium where they have posted an 8-0-1 record.
Connecticut need overtime yesterday to advance past upset-minded Rhode Island in the round of 32 after opening the tournament with a 2-0 win over Central Connecticut State. Florida State, who is making its second Sweet 16 appearance in the last three years, downed SEC regular season champion Auburn 2-1 and opened the tournament with a 2-0 victory over Ole Miss.
Weather will likely be a factor for a Seminole team that has played 17 of its 22 games this year in the state of Florida. The Garnet and Gold did make a late October trip to College Park, MD this season where temperatures were in the high 40’s and the game was played in a constant rain. The Seminoles won that game 1-0. Game time temperature for Sunday’s Sweet 16 match is predicted to be in the high 40’s and partly cloudy.
