Tampa, Fla. – The 31st-ranked men’s tennis team is in Tampa for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend against No. 13 USF Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Bulls’ Varsity Tennis Courts. That match follows a 10 a.m. start for Mississippi State and LSU, with the winners playing Sunday for a spot in the National Indoor Championships.
Florida State is facing USF for the first time since 2014, when the team’s split a pair of matches, FSU winning in the regular season 4-3 and USF winning in the NCAA Tournament, 4-2.
All-time, the Seminoles are 26-21 against the Bulls. USF enters the match with its highest ranking in school history, jumping two spots after opening the year ranked No. 15.
Along with USF, FSU can also get revenge for a postseason loss against No. 29 Mississippi State. The Bulldogs won the last matchup between the two schools in the 2010 NCAA Tournament’s first round.
No. 30 LSU rounds out the field. FSU won the last matchup between the two schools in 2010, 4-2.
The ITA Kick-Off Weekend features four-team regionals, with a championship and consolation match on the final day. The school that wins both matches from each of 16 regionals nationwide will advance to the National Indoor Championships Feb. 12-15 in Charlottesville, Va. The Seminoles last advanced to the National Indoor Championships in 2009.
