The Florida State men’s basketball team plays host to the Nike Elite All-Star team in an exhibition game at the Tallahassee Leon County Civic Center Sunday at 2 p.m. The game, as well as parking, at the Civic Center are free of admission and open to the public.
Sunday’s game is the first of two exhibition games on the Seminoles’ schedule before they open the season against Florida Nov. 16 in Gainesville.
Senior guard Antwuan Dixon scored 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field to lead the Gold team to a 71-68 victory over the Garnet squad in Florida State’s annual intra-squad scrimmage at the Leon County Civic Center Thursday night. Dixon was on fire in the first half as he made three of four 3-point shot attempts and eight of ten shots overall.
Dixon helped the Gold bolt to an early lead with his 19 first half points as his team led by as many as 10 points with five minutes elapsed in the first half. Dixon scored seven consecutive points on a dunk, a 3-pointer and a mid-range jump shot within a 56 second span to send the Gold on what seemed to be its way. He later added five consecutive points on a 3-point shot and a jumper to put the Gold team up, 31-28, with 6:26 remaining in the first half.
Seminole Fast Fact: Junior forward Mike Mathews is the leading returning shot blocker in the ACC entering the 2001-02 season. Each of the four players who finished ahead of him in the league statistics – Brendan Haywood of North Carolina, Alvin Jones of Georgia Tech, Shane Battier of Duke and Terrence Morris of Maryland – were all first or second round selections in the June’s NBA Draft.
