TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State men’s tennis team is set to host the 24th ranked Crimson Tide of the University of Alabama Friday at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on the campus of Florida State University. The Seminoles enter the contest with a record of 7-1. The Seminoles only loss of the season came at the hands of the no. 33 Commodores of Vanderbilt, who defeated the Seminoles by a narrow 4-3 margin last weekend. The Crimson Tide enters the contest with a 5-2 record.
In the series, which dates back to 1961, Alabama has a 12-8 edge over the Seminoles. The two teams last met in a match last season in Tuscaloosa, Ala., which the Crimson Tide won 7-0.
“The Alabama match will be our biggest home match of the season,” head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. “Last year, they defeated us 7-0 in Tuscaloosa. This year we feel like we have something to prove.”
The Seminoles feature freshman Mat Cloer, who is currently 8-0 in dual match play. Sophomore Alex Herrera has recorded wins in his last three dual match appearances for the Seminoles, each against ranked teams.
The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Admission is free to the public and refreshments will be provided as well. A free Seminoles tennis keychain will be given to the first 100 fans.
