TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Heading down the final stretch of the 2017 season, No. 18 Florida State (10-4-0, 4-3-0 ACC) will play its final two home regular season games this weekend as Notre Dame (7-5-3, 3-3-1 ACC) and Pitt (3-9-3, 0-6-1 ACC) come to the Seminole Soccer Complex for matches on Thursday and Sunday, respectively. The match between the Noles and the Irish will start at 7:00 p.m., while FSU and Pitt will begin at 1:00 p.m.
Prior to Sunday’s match against the Panthers, there will be an on-field ceremony to celebrate the 2017 senior class – Haylie Grant, Ari Hudson, Emma Koivisto and Cassie Miller. The quartet have helped the Noles to a record of 66-12-9 and a 25-6-6 mark in ACC play so far, including three ACC Championships, two trips to the College Cup and the 2014 NCAA National Championship.
“These seniors were freshmen the year we won the national championship,” said FSU head coach Mark Krikorian. “They came in and made an immediate impact on the team and have done nothing but help us develop and grow as a program since they’ve arrived. They are great kids, great students and very good players. Their contributions have been obvious and many.
“Notre Dame is extremely talented. Their roster is littered with a lot of youth national team members and they have some very talented attacking players and their defending has been pretty good. I expect it to be a competitive game on Thursday night.”
Florida State is 5-3 all-time against Notre Dame, including a 2-0 mark against the Irish in ACC play since ND joined the conference in 2013. The Seminoles have won four straight games in the matchup, including a 1-0 victory in Tallahassee during the 2012 NCAA Tournament to send FSU to the College Cup for the sixth time in school history.
The Seminoles are unbeaten against the Panthers in the four previous matchups with Pitt since they joined the ACC in 2013. Florida State has outscored Pitt by a combined score of 15-0 in those four games, and have outshot them 97-12.
Admission is free for all games this weekend at the Seminole Soccer Complex, an Thursday’s match against the Fighting Irish will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra. Live stats for both games will be available on Seminoles.com.
