TALLAHASSEE, FL – The NCAA announced Monday that Florida State
University and Dick Howser Stadium will host Auburn University in NCAA
Baseball Super Regional competition. Game times are scheduled for 7:00
p.m. on Friday (June 4th) and Saturday with Sunday’s game scheduled for
1:00 p.m., if necessary. Tickets can be purchased at the Moore Athletic
Center ticket office or by calling 1-888-FSU-NOLE (644-1830 locally),
beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
“I thought we had a very good chance of getting the Super
Regional,” said FSU head coach Mike Martin. “Our staff always does an
outstanding job in hosting these events. It is a fitting reward for a
great season that this baseball team has put together.”
FSU is 61-40 against Auburn in the all-time series, which dates
back to 1954. In the last meeting, the Seminoles defeated Auburn 16-10
in the championship game of the 1998 NCAA Atlantic II Regional
(Tallahassee) to reach the College World Series. In the 1997 NCAA East
Regional (Tallahassee), FSU lost two of three to the Tigers with Auburn
advancing to the CWS after a 5-2 win in the title game.
“We are looking forward to a great series with Auburn,” said
head coach Mike Martin. “I don’t want this series to be about anything
that happened with other people. The game should be decided on the
field. I don’t want them to come to a hostile environment. This game
should not be about hatred.”
Florida State advanced to Super Regional play after winning the
Tallahassee Regional with a 14-3 victory over Providence on Sunday.
The seven other Super Regional match-ups are: Wake Forest at
Miami; SW Louisiana at Rice (Astrodome); LSU/East Carolina at Alabama;
Oklahoma St. at Baylor; Clemson at Texas A&M; Southern California at
Stanford; Cal-State Fullerton at Ohio St.
The College World Series begins Friday, June 11th, with game
times and brackets announced on Monday, June 7th.
