Seminoles In Fifth Place After Two Rounds Of Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. –
Florida State freshman Jonas Blixt is in a tie for third place in the individual standings and the Seminole men’s golf team is in a tie for fifth place in the team standings after the first two rounds of the Gator Invitational at the University of Florida Golf Course. Blixt tied his career-low with a 70 in the second round and is tied with five players for third place. The Seminoles are only six strokes behind Wake Forest in the team standings.

Wake Forest carded a two-round team total of 577 and are on top of the team standings after the first 36 holes of the 54 hole event. Chris McCartin leads three Demon Deacons in the top-15 of the individual standings. Heath West of LSU and Brett Stegmaier of Florida are tied for first in the individual standings with identical scores of 140 heading into Sunday third and final round.

Blixt (Nassjo, Sweden) began the day with a one over par 71 and closed the afternoon with an even par 70. His 141 total for the first two rounds is a 36-hole best score for the freshman who is playing in his fifth career tournament. Blixt begins play in the third round only one shot behind the individual leaders.

Song Jeon, the second of three freshmen in the starting lineup, is in a tie for 11th place in the individual standings with a three-over par score of 143. He carded the top two rounds of his collegiate career with a one-over par 71 in the first round and a two over par 72 in the second round. Jong’s previous best score for 36 holes was 157 during the Cleveland Gold Intercollegiate during the fall of 2004.

A trio of Seminoles – newcomer Tommy Rymer, Adam Wallace and Mark Sestilio – are in a pack of five players who are in a tied for 42nd place. Rymer began his Seminole career with a four-over par 74 in the first round and closed the day with a six-over par 76. The transfer from the University of Texas is playing in the first event of his collegiate career. Junior Adam Wallace and senior Mark Sestilio carded identical scores of 75 in each of Saturday’s two rounds.

The final round of the event is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Sunday morning.
