RALEIGH, N.C. – Three Seminoles turned in under-par scores Friday to move the No. 17 Florida State men’s golf team into fifth place at the NCAA Raleigh Regional. The Seminoles shot a 6-under 278 in the second round at the par-71 Lonnie Poole Golf Course. The team tees off at 7:50 a.m. Saturday from the first hole.
After the restart of the first round, which was suspended Thursday afternoon due to weather, the Seminoles finished the first round in ninth place. After a short break, the team went back on the course to play the second round. With three players in the top 20 of individual standings, Florida State is now in contention to be one of the five teams that advance to the NCAA Championships next week.
“After a poor finish to the morning round, the guys rebounded with a solid second round,” said head coach Trey Jones. “I knew all five guys were playing really well leading into the tournament. I am proud of them for sticking to their game plan, showing some discipline and executing their shots as the day progressed. I am confident we will get another good round tomorrow.”
Both freshmen, Jack Maguire and Cristobal Del Solar, turned in a 73 in the first round and both proceeded to make a five-stroke improvement in the second round with a pair of 68s. Maguire shot a 3-under on the back nine to solidify his tie for 11th place while Del Solar started the round with a 2-under on the front nine.
Sophomore Hank Lebioda is at an even par (142) for the tournament and is tied for 18th. He posted a 73 in the first round and the followed up with four birdies in the second round to finish the day with a 69.
Senior Joaquin Lolas is tied for 35th with a 36-hole total of 2-over 144. In the first round, he made five birdies and five bogeys to score a 71. In the second round, he proceeded to make all pars except for two bogeys for a 73.
Sophomore Rowin Caron is tied for 59th with a 8-over 149.
