Seminoles In Sixth Place At Gator Men’s Golf Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. –
The Florida State men’s golf team is in a tie for sixth place after the first round of the Gator Invitational at the University of Florida Golf Course. Senior Rick Westbrook and freshman Eric Beaty lead the Seminoles after round one with identical one-over par scores of 71. The pair is tied for 14th in the individual standings.


Florida State carded a team round of 289 in the first round of the their first tournament this spring. It was the best team round carded by the Seminoles under second-year head coach Nicky Goetze.


Westbrook (Alto, Ga.) and Beaty (Germantown, Md.) shot identical scores of 36 on the front nine and 35 after making the turn. It marked the fifth time during his two-year Florida State career that Westbrook had shot 71 or better for a single round. He averaged 76.89 strokes per round in nine rounds during the 2001 fall season. Beaty, competing in his sixth collegiate tournament, shot 71 or better for the third time during his short career.


Junior Peter Mitchell (Miami, Fla.) is in a tie for 18th place with a two over par score of 72 while sophomore Brad Lusenhop (Gloversville, N.Y.) is tied for 51st and sophomore Alan Beers (Midlothian, Va.) is tied for 69th place.


The Seminoles are tied with the University of Alabama for 6th place in the team standings with a 289 score. The University of Alabama at Birmingham leads the team standings with a 274 score.
