FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Beginning today in Federal Way, Wash., six Florida State swimmers will take to the pool to compete in the 2009 U.S. Open. The five day event held at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center will reportedly include more than 800 swimmers from across the nation.
Representing Florida State at the meet are Scott Thacker, Robby Hayes, Matt Shead and Ian Rowe for the men and C.J. Hendry and Stephanie Sarandos for the women. All of the swimmers, besides Sarandos, have been training here in Tallahassee this summer as part of Club Seminole.
First up for the Seminoles is Hayes competing in the 200 butterfly and Thacker in the 200 breaststroke. Later today Rowe will swim in the 1500 freestyle.
On Wednesday, August 5, Hayes will compete in the 100 freestyle. Rowe and Sarandos will compete in the next event, the 200 backstroke.
Rowe will swim again on Thursday, August 6, in the 400 freestyle, while Hendry and Hayes swim in the 100 butterfly.
Friday, August 7, Thacker and Shead are set to compete in the 100 breaststroke and Sarandos will compete in the 100 backstroke. On the final day of competition, Hayes and Shead will participate in the 200 individual medley.
