TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Brandi McCain and Vanessa Hayden scored 19 points
apiece and combined for the final 10 points of overtime as No. 19 Florida
escaped with a 78-74 victory over Florida State on Thursday night.

McCain’s baseline jumper with 1:39 to play gave the Gators (3-2) a 75-74
lead they never relinquished. It was Florida’s first lead since the midway mark
in the second half.

Florida State (4-1), off to its best start in 19 seasons, missed its final
four shots and lost for the 14th straight time to Florida.

Nikki Whiting’s baseline jumper with 2:27 to play in overtime gave the
Seminoles a 74-71 lead. But they didn’t score again. Whiting had a game-high 28
points and Tasheika Morris added 24 for Florida State.

The Seminoles endured a similar drought at the end of regulation. Trinetta
Moore’s layup with 2:51 to play gave FSU a 66-60 lead, but Florida shut them
down the rest of the way.

McCain followed up a 3-pointer with a pair of free throws that tied the game
at 66 with 53 seconds to play.

Freshman Tishona Gregory scored 15 points in her first career start for
Florida.

In the process of snapping a two-game losing streak, the Gators won their
38th consecutive game against in-state schools.
